Baby Bluebirds on Easter Sunday

A Ducker’s Adventures story

After church today we peeked in the bluebird house. Here is me peeking in the hole but I couldn’t see much that way.

Ducker peeking in Bluebird house
I tried to peek in the hole but it was too dark to see inside. Mrs. Green said she would open the front of the birdhouse so we could see inside.
Baby Bluebirds
Oh look! There are three baby birds in the nest. Two are facing us and the third is facing the back of the birdhouse. We didn't keep the box open very long. The babies were sleeping and didn't even open their mouths. Mrs. Green thinks these babies are ten or eleven days old. We won't peek into the box again until after they "fledge" or leave the nest. That may happen this week.

Mrs. Green wonders if there might be a fourth baby because there were four eggs the last time she looked in the box. One might not have hatched. Here are some more pictures she took several days ago.

Mama Bluebird peeking out
On April 12 Mrs. Green wanted to open the box and look to see if the eggs had hatched, but Mama was inside and she didn't want to scare her so she waited another day. Look closely and you can see Mama Bluebird.
Mama or Papa Bluebird
Bluebirds are very protective of their eggs and babies. This bluebird is watching us.
Bluebird eggs
Mrs. Green expected to see baby birds already hatched when she took this picture on April 13. These eggs will probably hatch by April 14 but she shouldn't open their nest box again for another week.

Ducker loves to travel and visit new places. Sometimes he gets restless and quacks and quacks begging Mrs. Green to find someplace where he can go. He travels with the help of the Post Office most of the time since that is cheaper than airline tickets. Contact Janice D. Green if you would like to host Ducker for a visit to someplace special. He behaves himself most of the time.

  • I’m looking for the Honeycomb Bible. My niece in South Carolina uses this bible in her school and I could like to be able to get this bible for gifts for other children.
If you could please let me know where I could buy this bible I would appreciate it very much.

    • I know nothing about the Honeycomb Bible. I have recently chosen the name Honeycomb Adventures Press to publish my Bible storybooks. I would be interested in learning more about the Honeycomb Bible myself.

  • The babies should fledge any day now. I had hoped to see them leave the box today. I saw them peeking out every now and then.
