Watching “peeps” grow

Home/Family Activities, God's Creation/Watching “peeps” grow

Two day old biddies
These little chicks were breaking out of their eggs two days ago. Aren't they cute?

You hear a lot of people talking about their “peeps” lately but they are usually talking about children. But today I want to share a little about some real “peeps” that say “peep” whenever they are excited. My husband mail ordered some baby chicks a little over a week ago and they have been so much fun to watch. And it seems like the perfect nudge to get me posting again. I’ve been so engrossed in marketing The Creation and getting my two Bible quilt coloring books published that I’m behind here.

Baby chicks & water dish
The peeps find the water - sooo good after having spent the night in the mail without feed or water.

These pictures were taken they day the chicks arrived in the mail. Half of them were for a friend who soon picked them up. This antique washtub will have to be home until they grow enough feathers to go outside. And my DH Dave has his work cut out for him to get the next home ready. We hope they will be big enough to lay eggs in the spring or early summer.

We couldn’t keep all this fun to ourselves. If we had children at home I know they would be excited to help take care of them and watch them grow. Instead we found some neighbor kids to share them with. Keelana was thrilled to see them.

Watching baby chicks
Keelana likes the baby chicks. Missy (dog) didn't care about chicks, she just wants my attention.

I’ll try to post more pictures in the next few days. They have easily doubled in size. Their wing feathers are developing quickly. They can already jump/fly to the rim of the washtub, so we have to cover it with a grid to keep them inside except when we change their feed and water.
