My neighbor welcomed me home from vacation and then showed me a nest in a tree in her yard. I was uncertain of the kind of bird that might have made it though I suspect it was made by mockingbirds as we have several around and they had built nests in our grape arbor before the bluebird box was set up. At the time the nest was empty, but now there is an egg in the nest. It was
I’ve been away on vacation, so it’s time to play catch-up. We do have a second nest of bluebirds in our birdhouse and it has four eggs in it. I’m not sure when the eggs were first laid. I looked both yesterday and today and the number was four both days, which means she has stopped laying. My neighbor may be able to shed more light on this when I get a chance to ask him about it.
I have been blown away by all the activity around my Bluebird house! I missed it. By the time I got home from work yesterday my baby Bluebirds had fledged from the nest. Their house was empty except for the nest and fecal matter, so I removed the nest and will do the clean-up later. I was watching the weather yesterday with tornado watches out. I’ve seen Mama and Papa around, and am watching for the babies. My eyes are leaving me a bit handicapped, but I hope to see them around soon. Copyright ©
I have been watching the bluebird box a lot the past three days expecting to see the babies leave the nest. I am convinced that the mama and papa bluebirds are trying to coax the babies out this evening. They have flown to the box and to the lowest board on our arbor that sits about ten feet in front of the birdhouse. Then they fly to the trees as well. There is no way short of opening the box to
