On the day of the big race I got to celebrate with Miss Megan’s family. I helped park cars in the front and back yard. Then I listened to Jim Nabors sing “Back Home Again in Indiana,” (That’s one of Mrs. Green’s favorite songs too.) I heard the roar as the cars fired their engines, and I saw thousands of balloons that were let go all at once float high above the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. And if that wasn’t enough, I got all quivery and started to do my happy duck dance when the amazing Stealth Bomber flew overhead. That was awesome!
Then we all hunkered down for a yummy cookout – Miss Megan’s family can really cook! Being with her family was so much fun as the sounds of the cars echoed in the background. I was surprised to learn we couldn’t watch the races on TV in Indianapolis, but we listened to the radio to learn what was going on just down the street at the race tracks. When Miss Megan told me that the Indy 500 is the largest single-day sporting event in the world I got all excited again doing my crazy duck dance and quacking noises. She said there were well over 250,000 people attending the races. That’s a lot of people. Maybe it’s a good thing we were on the outside. I might have gotten stepped on. We think we saw most of those 250,000 when the race ended (Dan Wheldon won the race) because Miss Megan lives so close to the Speedway Race track. People streamed out of the Speedway for over two hours. It was a really noisy day, but what fun!!!
Once the crowd had cleared, I wanted to see the place where all this commotion had taken place. So, we walked on down to the main gate where Miss Megan’s son, William, held me up under the famous “Wing & Wheels.” It is hard to see us in the picture because the gate is so big and high and we had to stand on the ground!
Miss Megan said she loved having me join them for this great American tradition. I’m really glad she invited me. The Indy 500 races and the parades really make for a magical time!

He behaves himself most of the time.
