Millgrove Farms – Second Visit

Home/Ducker's Adventures/Millgrove Farms – Second Visit

I got a chance to go back to Millgrove Farms again. This time I went with a bunch of neat kids from the Donnelly Community who have been learning about gardening with Ms. Denise Santoro and Mr. Green through a ministry called America’s Blessed Children. Here are some neat things we did…

First we fed the rabbits. They didn’t run away when we had food for them.

Miss Carole showed us the right way to feed the donkeys. She said we put the carrots in our hands and then hold our hand out flat. Then the donkeys would take them out of our hands.

Feeding goatsThe goats liked greens.

Ducker & GoatsThis made me nervous. I was afraid the goats might think I was food! I hear they will eat almost anything. I got away without a bite.

Hi little goat!Hi little goat. You sure are cute!

Petting the cowThe girls petted the cow. Milk, beef, and hamburger all come from cows.

Then we petted the pigs. Pork and bacon come from pigs.

Hi piggie!Next we went on a hayride! Miss Denice held me so I wouldn’t fall off or get blown away by the breeze.

Ducker and the chicksHere are some young chicks. Harvesting turnips

I hear the chicks were in a teacher’s classroom before they went to Millgrove Farms. The girls helped to harvest some turnips in a field. They hope they can grow some turnips like these in their next garden.

Ducker & pumpkinsYay! Here is the pumpkin patch. Mr. Ben laughed and said it was his “vineless” pumpkin patch. He said there was so much rain this fall that all the pumpkin vines they had planted died. I wonder if “The Great Pumpkin” brought these pumpkins to Millgrove Farms.

Loading pumpkinsEach girl got a pumpkin. Ducker's new friend

We put them all on the hay wagon before returning to the produce stand and the barns. I like my new friends.

Yay for the harvest! We got quite a harvest for our afternoon on the farm.

Mr. ScarecrowWe made a scarecrow.

We picked out a large shirt and pants and stuffed them with straw. We also stuffed his head and put a hat on him. Don’t you like our cool scarecrow! He might scare crows, but he didn’t scare me!

I watched the girls try to find their way through this great big hay maze.

I was afraid they wouldn’t find their way out, but they did. They were so smart, they were out in no time!

Then they jumped on the huge caterpillar’s back for a great picture.

Time for one last picture before we had to go home. What a fun day on the farm!

Thank you Millgrove Farms for showing us such a good time!

Ducker loves to travel and visit new places. Sometimes he gets restless and quacks and quacks begging Mrs. Green to find someplace where he can go. He travels with the help of the Post Office most of the time since that is cheaper than airline tickets. Contact Janice D. Green if you would like to host Ducker for a visit to someplace special. He behaves himself most of the time.
