About Janice D. Green

I was once a kid.  My body says I’m not a kid anymore, but my heart tells me something different.

My husband once told a secret to a kid in my church.  He told her that there was a little girl trapped inside my (over 60 year old) body.  He thought he was only kidding, but I know better.

When my body was a kid, I lived in northern Indiana.  Most of that time I lived in a very small town or on a farm.  Later we moved to Tennessee and I fooled the teachers at Middle Tennessee State University into thinking I was a college student.

Then I got really brave and fooled some principals in South Carolina into thinking I was a teacher.

I fooled some more people and got married and had a daughter.  I think of her as my sister only now she is getting too old to be a kid so I don’t know what to do about that.  She has three children for me to play with.  That’s fantastic!  I just wish they didn’t live so far away.

I fooled people into believing I was an elementary school library media specialist–at least my principal and the people at the district office thought that.  But I don’t believe the kids in my school were fooled.  We knew how to have fun even if I did have to remind them that I was still the boss in the library.

My body is old enough so I could retire from my library job. Now I’m having more fun than ever fooling people into thinking I’m a writer. I’m writing Bible stories and making my own pictures too. The pictures are made out of fabric.

Please don’t tell anybody I’m really a kid inside. It might spoil all my fun.

    Janice,
I am really impressed with your talent..your writings. God has really blessed you in a special way. I have always admired writers and I love your work on your page. I will bookmark your website and read some more. Thank you for telling me about it.
I am a big kid too and love playing with my grand children. They love to come. I love to hear them pray and I thank God for all four!
Keep in touch and keep writing!!!

    • Thank you Gloria. I hope you get to see your grandchildren more often than I see mine. My daughter lives about 300 miles away, so visits are few and far between. Thanks for leaving such a nice comment.

    Hello Janice,

I appreciate the concept of you being a kid more than you know. Although I was born in 1958, I am emotionally 11. My own daughter figured this out and explained why she thinks this (after taking only a few psychology classes down in college – amazing, huh? LOL!). She would know, after all – she “grew up with me.” Like you with your daughter, I was my daughter’s friend, too, which was good, but sometimes (for my daughter), not so good (i.e., sometimes a kid needs a mom). Your spin on being “a kid” makes me feel a little bit better. I realize that is not what you are aiming for, but thank you and I’m going to tell my daughter about you too.

(I just thought of something … maybe it’s not a “spin” because I noticed that your husband supports your “kid-ness” – sweet!)

    I enjoyed reading your blog.
    Margaret

    • I think most adults still have a kid living inside them, though some to a greater degree than others. Mem Fox wrote a children’s picture book called Night Noises that gave me the idea for this blog. You should look for it in the library and read it. I try not to let the kid part be too obvious in my adult world, but I’m afraid it still slips out sometimes. :)
(Note: This comment was originally posted on my former blog, “Tales from the Kid In Me,” which has since been incorporated into Honeycomb Adventures Press. “Tales from the Kid in Me” posts can now be found under the category by that name.)

Hi Janice….from one kid to another :) I found your blog after reading your “sermonette” on building barns. I’ve recently moved into my daughter’s home (mine, really, but that’s another story) and share it with her, my son-in-law and three grandchildren, ages 7, 4 and 18 mos. As you can imagine there’s lots of hugs, laughter and play! The reason I was reading about barns is that I’ve been building shelves to contain the too much stuff that I am squeezing into my little room, and this morning in prayer time the Lord showed me that shelves are very much like barns. Next step…more sorting and giving away! Do you still live in SC? I lived in St. Matthews for 5 years and Charleston for 2. JOY to you today!

Thank you AnnaKay for your insightful comments. It is hard to give away things you love, and we don’t always understand why we have to purge so deeply. But it always goes easier if we learn to trust that God knows what he is doing in our lives. Trusting Him is what it is all about. God bless you and yours. Enjoy being with the little ones. My grandchildren are so far away I only get to see them once or twice a year.

My husband is always asking how old I am because I act like a kid most of the time. I tell him 11 years old. Keep having fun being a kid!
